If you want to use one of the peripherals in MAME and don't know how to select it in the command line, use the switch "-listslots" in the command line to list all valid device names:

mame ti99_4a -listslots

SYSTEM SLOT NAME SLOT OPTIONS SLOT DEVICE NAME
-------- ---------- -------------- ---------------------------------------
ti99_4a gromport gkracker Miller's Graphics GRAM Kracker
    multi TI-99 Multi-cartridge extender
    single TI-99 Standard cartridge connector

  ioport arcturus Arcturus sidecar cartridge
    peb Peripheral expansion box
    speechsyn TI-99 Speech Synthesizer
    splitter TI-99 I/O Port Splitter
    thermal TI-99 Thermal Printer

  joyport mecmouse TI-99 Mechatronics Mouse
    twinjoy TI-99/4(A) Twin Joysticks

This delivers all options for the unexpanded console. If you connect a Peripheral Expansion Box (peb) you will see more options, notably those that indicate the options for the PEB slots.

mame ti99_4a -ioport peb -listslots

SYSTEM SLOT NAME SLOT OPTIONS SLOT DEVICE NAME
-------- ---------- -------------- ---------------------------------------
ti99_4a ... ... ... (see above)

  ioport:peb:slot2 32kmem TI-99 32KiB memory expansion card

ccfdc CorComp Floppy Disk Controller Card Rev A
    ddcc1 Myarc Disk Controller Card

hfdc Myarc Hard and Floppy Disk Controller
    horizon Horizon 4000B RAMdisk
    hsgpl SNUG High-speed GPL card

    usbsm Nouspikel USB/Smartmedia card
whtscsi Western Horizon Technologies SCSI host adapter

  ioport:peb:slot3 ... ...

In general, you have to use the slot name with a hyphen (like -ioport) and the slot option value following after a space. Thus, to plug in the HFDC into slot 8 of the PEB, use

mame ti99_4a -ioport peb -ioport:peb:slot8 hfdc

Note that some slot options may be preselected. You can check the current slot configuration in the OSD menu during runtime.
